1958: Stan Miln, K6RMR
Stan Miln, K6RMR (formerly KN6RMR, 1958)
I was a Novice in 1958 and that was what I operated, 145 to 147Mhz crystal controlled 75 watts power input Maximum Power. To access the entire band you had to be a General or higher. I took my Dad's Gonset Communicator and made my first contact on 4/15/58. The License was dated to start on 4/8/58. I attached my Novice license. At that time the Novice had not changed from it start in 1951 until Nov 22, 1968 when the Novice lost the 2 meter phone privileges and became a CW license only. In 1951 about June my dad got his Novice License. At the age of 8 years old I use to talk 3rd Party on 2 meters AM with my dad. His first 2 meter radio was a military Surplus Arc 4 Aircraft transceiver converted to 2 meters. When Gonset came out with the communicator about 1954 my dad brought one home from the Old Henry Radio in West LA.
